Wake IslandThis Air Force base is located in the South Pacific and is owned by the U.S. Air Force and operated by the 611th Air Support Group. The air cargo terminal is separate from the air passenger terminal , where only incidental freight is handled. Elwha River RestorationElwha River Restoration, NPS largest project to date BEFORE the Grand Canyon project. 15 years in the making the Elwha River is finaly recovering from being dammed up for logging. For over a century, the web of ecological and cultural connections in the Elwha Valley were broken - then the river's story changed course. In 1992, Congress passed the Elwha River Ecosystem and Fisheries Restoration Act, authorizing dam removal to restore the altered ecosystem and the native anadromous fisheries therein. After two decades of planning, the largest dam removal in U.S. history began on September 17, 2011. Six months later the Elwha Dam was gone, followed by the Glines Canyon Dam in 2014. Camp MabryCamp Mabry is a military installation in Austin, Texas, housing the headquarters of the Texas Military Department, Texas Military Forces, and Texas Military Forces Museum. It was initially a literal camp where the Texas Volunteer Guard hosted mock battles and demonstrations for the people of Austin. In 1909 the camp was enlarged by the addition of 200 acres purchased by the federal government for use in training the state national guard. Selma Interpretive Center (NPS)The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail was established as a unit of the National Park System. The plot of land, which is immediately adjacent to Highway 80 and the Selma to Montgomery March route, is now the site of the Lowndes Interpretive Center, which serves as a public interpretive center and recreational area. The facility was previously constructed and owned by ALDOT and used as a welcome center/rest stop before being acquired by the National Park Service in 2011. Today, the historic march route is a component of the National Trail System, and is administered by the National Park Service. The route is also designated as a National Scenic Byway/All-American Road, awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
